Following a major reconstruction of the Kronborg Castle, the setting of Shakespear’s Hamlet, the Danish Maritime Museum became evicted.
In 2007, the Danish Maritime Museum held an open competition to design a new building. Although the competition brief demanded the new museum to be placed within the dry dock, BIG architects designed a museum around the dock. The result surprised the jury that saw beyond that, canceling the competition and choosing their project.
The museum is currently set to open in 2010
